Earlier this year we started looking for the next batch of graduates to join our Graduate Training Scheme. Launched in 2017, this was initially a 12 month training programme to recruit new graduates straight into our Design and Estimating Departments but has grown into a two-year programme that gives the graduates a breadth of knowledge across the business and firmly embeds in them the UKPS methodology and culture.
We were looking for graduates with a degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering but they also needed to show that they had certain skills that are key to UKPS in general and the Design and Estimating roles in particular, including: good communication skills and a collaborative ethic; organisational awareness; analytical thinking; a thirst for continuous professional development; a desire to achieve the best results and to contribute to the success of UKPS, which means they have also have to be serious about excellent customer service.
Assessments were held in June and July and 13 of our successful candidates began their training on 2nd September, with joining our Design and Estimating departments in Stonehouse, London and Warrington. The final three are due to start in October.
They will be trained and supervised with the expectation of developing into a competent Engineer, where they will undertake full Estimating/Design and Planning responsibilities. Growing and developing our own staff has been a key factor in our success in building a sustainable business for the long term and offering a graduate training scheme has helped us to attract the next generation of engineers into the industry. We wish them all luck in their training and look forward to working with them.
