New electrical connections to the Cutty Sark

Cutty Sark

Project Brief

Following the devastating fire in 2007 that ravaged the Cutty Sark, the iconic maritime treasure located in Greenwich, London, there was much restoration work to be done. There was also a brief for the creation of a new visitors centre and restaurant to surround the Cutty Sark.

The project brief for UK Power Solutions was to design and supply a new electrical connection to this development, including the installation of a substation and the provision of heads for multiple metered supplies.

Project Management

Following acceptance of UK Power Solutions’ detailed proposal, a kick-off meeting with the client enabled the production of a critical path plan. The project was complicated by a long 900 metre off site route for cables, the imposition of limited timescales because of working hour restrictions due to the nature of this tourist site and tight control of road opening/closing notices, particularly where schools were located; making it essential that all project milestones were reached on time.

Project Delivery

The energisation of the electrical supply was completed on time and met with the overall project schedule, enabling the re-opening of the historic site to go ahead as planned.
